LECTURES

This week, Mr. Fauzi introduced us to how to use the "Adjust Layers" and "Filters" tools in Photoshop. These are two widely used and powerful tools.

PROJECT 1B: DIGITAL COLLAGE REVIEW AND ADJUSTMENT

Improve with the new tools learned (layers and filters) to proceed adjustment to my Digital Collage work in Adobe Photoshop.

DIGITAL COLLAGE REVIEW

Below is the best one that Mr. Fauzi selected from the three collages I made last time, and this is the version that has not been adjusted.

PROCESS WORK

  • I did not make any major adjustments to the position and composition, and there was no change to the elements in the picture.
  • I moved the wreath formed by the eight fishes to the left to make the center more mechanically centered.
  • I used filters to adjust the light and dark relationship and contrast to make the overall picture more unified, because each part of the collage originally came from different pictures.
  • They are darker overall, but I also used curves to adjust some of them, increasing the brightness and exposure of some parts, making the picture more three-dimensional and textured.
  • It is worth mentioning that I processed the three branches and three people separately, because their three-dimensional position relationships in the picture are different. For example, the brightness of the branches and people in the front will be higher, the middle ones will be second, and the people and branches at the end will be the darkest, especially the people on the left who are somewhat integrated into the background shadow.

  • After adjusting each small part with masks and filters, I created a new filter layer on the top of all layers, slightly reducing the overall brightness, making the picture more textured and unified but not too dark.

FINAL WORK

DESCRIPTION:

The collage consists of eight blue fish, a mechanical device, a typewriter, and some branches. I use them to represent the relationship between natural objects, machines, animals, and humans. I think these elements are closely linked in modern society, even machines and plants and animals exist together and influence each other. The main perspective is represented by three people, who observe these from below. Humans are not as big as they imagine, but the "flower" that combines organisms and machines is even bigger. Now, do they have the right and ability to interfere with the status quo that has "sprouted, grown, and bloomed"?

REFLECTIONS

Experience - In this task, I used different tools and methods to adjust the image, especially Match lighting Adjustment layers and filters.

Observations - I noticed that I still need a lot of experience to master these tools proficiently. For example, how to naturally adjust the color tone of two images from different sources to blend the picture together. I should continue to delve deeper into these tools and understand their algorithmic principles within my own time in order to better utilize them.

Findings - Through this assignment, I found that good works can be produced not only by proficient use of tools. We need to improve our aesthetics and creativity, be good at finding inspiration and discovering 'beauty', so that we can be more adept at design.
