PROJECT 1B - PART 2: Recoloring Black and
1. PROJECT 1B - PART 2: Recoloring Black and

RECOLOUR BLACK AND
1. EXERCISE 1
Download the black and picture from the Google Drive and this is the original picture.
Recolour Black and Original Picture
  • Firstly, import the black and images into Photoshop and follow the video tutorial to begin the operation.
  • Recolor in multiple sections and rename each layer accordingly.
  • Due to the lack of color reference, we use brush tools to customize colors.
  • For the blending option, the face, hair, lips, and eyes are all blended in "overlay mode".
  • Use the 'Soft Light Mode' to blend the shirt and background selection.
  • If you are not satisfied with the final mixed color, you can use Adjust>Tone and Saturation to adjust it.

2. EXERCISE 2 - Part 1
  • There are more steps in this exercise, but in reality, they are all repetitive steps. It is important to master a part of the recoloring method and apply it to other areas.
  • Firstly, download the provided black and image.
  • When covering and refining layers, pay attention to remembering certain parts, as clothes and hair with fuzz can be difficult to handle.

3. EXERCISE 2 - Part 2
  • I selected a black and photo of Queen Elizabeth as the exercise object on Google Drive. Because she is very famous, color references are easier to find.
  • This photo is even more difficult to handle than imagined, with the most challenging part being the hair. No matter what tool is used, it is difficult to accurately choose or make color transitions.

REFLECTIONS

Experience - Doing this exercise made me feel that Photoshop is a very powerful software, and the process of recoating black and photos is like magic, very intelligent and convenient. People can use the powerful algorithm of this feature to give color to old photos, making their memories more vivid. Very meaningful.

Observations - The overall teaching is not difficult, almost anyone can achieve it. Some places are very complex, but essentially just repeating steps, requiring more patience from the operator. I noticed that the blending mode of soft light may be more suitable for recoating black and photos, as it will make the colors more natural and not too bright. But I think overall it still depends on the operator's aesthetic and color sense.

Findings - I have found that 'Add Cut Mask' is a very useful and powerful feature, which is somewhat similar to using Musk on layers after selection. He is more suitable for subsequent color adjustments for individual layers.
