TASK 3: FINAL OUTCOME

Fig.1.1 Final Outcome / (Week 17/3/2025)

TITLE: Forget Me Not

RATIONALE:

 i) The decisions made in my design:

For my final task, I made a digital drawing of a girl playing a violin in a forest with blue flowers and green trees. I picked soft colors like green, blue, and gray to make everything look calm and nice. I choose to put the girl at the position which follows the guideline of rule of third, so she’d be the most notable object in the picture you see, and for the character design, she is in a dress that looks like it’s moving in the wind. For the forest, it has tall, skinny trees with lots of leaves to make it feel like a real nature spot, and I added blue flowers on the ground to make it prettier and add some color. I kept the style simple and kind of cartoony because I wanted it to feel dreamy and happy.

ii) The meaning/purpose of the design:

I made this artwork to show how music can make you feel peaceful and happy, even in a forest. The girl playing the violin stands for finding calmness through music in a natural place. The blue flowers look like forget-me-nots to me, and they mean memories and hope, which makes the picture feel more special. I wanted people to look at it and feel relaxed, like they can hear the soft violin music mixing with the quiet forest sounds. My goal was to create a calm, magical moment that brings together music, nature, and feelings.

iii) The design principles that are employed to create the design:

I used a few design ideas to make my drawing work well. Contrast shows up because the girl’s gray dress stands out against the bright green trees and blue flowers, making her easy to notice. Emphasis is on the girl with the violin—she’s in the middle with space around her, so your eyes go to her first. Balance isn’t even; the trees and flowers on the sides balance out the girl in the center, making it look natural and not too perfect. Repetition happens with the straight lines of the trees and the blue flowers spread around, giving the picture a nice flow and feel. Movement comes from the girl’s dress that looks like it’s blowing and her pose with the violin, showing she’s playing music. Harmony & Unity are there because I used soft colors and a gentle style, so the trees, flowers, and girl all fit together in a calm, happy way.

REFLECTION

  • What have I learnt in this Module?
This module taught me the basics and theories of art and design. I learned how to use what I learned to create works that are more in line with design principles, which made my designs more solid and full of logic. In this course, I explored design principles, color theory, and gradually consolidated and applied this knowledge through the course assignments. My tutor, Ms. Jinchi, was very responsible and gave me a lot of helpful feedback on what I could improve, including how the concept was formed in the early stages of the design. Overall, this module made me a better artist.
  • What did I enjoy the most?
I loved the process of turning my ideas into digital illustrations, and the assignments in this module were very flexible, allowing me to create on any platform, not just Adobe Illustrator. This allowed me to better use my creativity, and when I got feedback, I had clear guidance on how to make my work better.
  • What did I not enjoy the most?
What I didn't like was that the course was mainly arranged online, which was convenient and gave students more freedom in their schedules, but the downside was that it made communication between students very rare. Sometimes communicating with classmates, learning from each other and exchanging ideas can also make me progress academically and gain more inspiration.
  • What have I learnt about myself through this module?
Through this module, I found that creation and design sometimes cannot rely solely on arbitrary ideas. Good works are often supported by a solid theoretical foundation. In future design creation, I must not only give full play to my own inspiration, but also consider the design principles to make the work more attractive.
  • What has changed and what has not in my learning journey?
My attitude towards art has changed a lot. I began to accept more forms and styles of design and art works, and tried to analyze them with the knowledge I learned, so that I can also learn useful knowledge in different designs. What hasn't changed is that even though I've started to take on a wider variety of work and designs, my personal goal is still to become a great illustrator.
  • What are my aspirations?
In the future, I hope to be able to skillfully apply design principles to my own works, learn from the works of other artists, and develop my own unique artistic style.
