Observations

This artwork showed a peaceful scene of a misty forest. In the center of the forest, girl with long black hair, wearing a dark outfit with a white ribbon, sits at a white grand piano. The piano just rests on a patch of yellow flowers, standing out there against the gray, foggy trees. The forest formed with tall and thin trees with light leaves, creating a dreamy feel to audience. The doves fly above the piano, adding picture a movement. Most of the colors are soft grays and whites, with few yellow flowers as decorations and tiny golden specks floating in the air, giving it a magical look.

Analysis

This artwork effectively applies design principles. The contrast is particularly prominent in color and lighting, for example, the light and soft yellow flowers contrast with the cool gray blue tones of the forest, and the bright white piano and the girl's dark clothes also create a distinct difference, those add warmth and visual interest. The overall composition of the picture is asymmetrical balance, with a focus on the girl playing the piano; The open space around her and the light shining on the piano made her the focus of attention, while the trees and birds balanced the visual weight of the piano and the girl. Repetition, appearing in the vertical lines of trees and scattered yellow petals and flowers, adds rhythm and texture to the picture. The movement can be implied through the flowing hair and ribbons of the girl, the floating petals in the air, and the flying pigeons, making the audience feel a calm but alive scene. Harmony and unity can be felt from a consistent color palette and soft lighting, where natural elements such as trees, flowers, and birds seamlessly blend with the subject, creating a cohesive image.

Interpertation

This artwork, The Main Visual for the FLOWERS Orchestra Concert by Miki Sugina, created in 2024 as a digital illustration, blends calmness, mystery, and nature to promote the FLOWERS Orchestra Concert "Mémoire éternelle," meaning "eternal memory" in French. The scene of a person playing a piano in a misty forest, surrounded by yellow flowers and doves, reflects the concert’s theme, inspired by the flower Helichrysum cornum—with the flower meaning "eternal memoriesor" or "lasting remembrance" —as noted in posts on X and the concert' s official website. Sugina, known for his work in the FLOWERS game series, designed this illustration to evoke a dreamy, timeless connection to music and nature, aiming to draw audiences to the 2024 concert celebrating the series' 10th anniversary. The illustration suggests a peaceful, magical narrative, and the enduring power of the game and its art, set in a modern digital format for online promotion.

Sketches
1.
Figure 2.1 skecth 1

This sketch depicts a girl wearing a loose dress playing the violin in the forest. The clear figure stands out particularly among the dim trees and leaves, making the girl the main focus of the picture. The asymmetrical balance of the screen makes the entire scene less monotonous. The long dress was blown by the wind, implying a movement in the picture. Repetition of same elements such as trees and flowers not only enrich the picture, but also create a scene with harmony and unity.

Figure 2.2 skecth 2

I want to depict a girl wearing a flowing long dress playing the violin in the forest through this painting. The characters and the flowers and birds around them will use bright colors, while the faint trees and leaves as backgrounds will be dominated by low saturation colors to create contrast. The protagonist's clothing will use a single color that is close to white, which is different from the complexity of the environment and emphasizes that the girl is the focus of the picture. The composition of the picture is asymmetrical balance, but will follow the rule of thirds. There is repetition in the picture, such as flowers, trees in the forest, birds, etc., which make the picture more rich. The clothes, hair, and bird movements that are blown by the wind can imply the movement contained in the picture.

3.
Figure 2.3 skecth 3

I want to depict a scene of a girl wearing a long dress playing the violin in the forest. I chose a very wide elevation angle in terms of perspective, which not only allows for more environmental images, but also makes the picture more unique and unusual, like a dream. The picture is an asymmetrical balance, which can highlight the key points of the picture and make it more interesting. At the same time, the repetition of tree, flower, and leaf shapes adds rhythm and texture. The smooth lines of the long dress, which are blown by the wind, can imply a gentle movement. The unity and harmony couoldl be found in the picture by consistent soft style and natural elements blend seamlessly with the girl, creating a dreamy and peaceful scene.

FEEDBACK
Week 4 :
  • Some words are misspelled, such as "asymmetrical balance".
  • For the analysis part, AI should not be used to summarize and modify the text, which would defeat the purpose of this task.
  • Add reference section
Week 5 :
  • Add 30-50 words rationals with describing of design principles for each sketch.
  • Add a brief description for each figure.
  • Image reference needs to have a link
