REFLECTIONS
Experience -
This typography module has been a challenging yet incredibly rewarding journey. From exploring typographic systems to creating my own font, Touhou Project Font Regular, I learned how type design connects deeply with branding and real-world visuals. Among all tasks, designing the wordmark and expanding it into collaterals was the toughest, as I struggled to balance creativity with clarity. Despite technical issues, time pressure, and countless revisions, I gained confidence in my design skills and grew more comfortable expressing my personality through type. Mr. Vinod’s feedback played a huge role in that—his teaching pushed me beyond the basics and helped me grow as a creative thinker.
Observations -
One key takeaway is I learned the importance of consistency—whether in letterforms, layout, or branding elements. A proper grid structure, stroke balance, and kerning make a huge difference in readability and cohesion. I also realized that typography requires not just visual skill but also organization and discipline. Even simple design choices, when made with intention, impact the overall communication and feel of a project.
Findings -
This module changed how I see design—I’ve learned to notice the details behind every wordmark, font, and layout I come across. Typography is everywhere, and as designers, we must be bold, take risks, and be intentional with every decision. I now understand how type influences perception and how essential it is in building visual identity. Most of all, I’ve discovered that growth comes through trial, feedback, and persistence—and that makes the whole process worth it.
