Lectures

Week 7

- No Lectures.
- Consultation.
  • Text information in video is too massive.
  • Need better arrangement of each  storyboard, so can manage the time and speed well.
  • Need more detailed animation like scissors, fire, tomato sauce and so on.

Final Project - Animated Inforgraphic Video

Timeline

Figure 3.1.1

-The original poster's content was clear enough to outline the timeline. Based on its steps, a timeline was created, divided into two parts, A and B, which also facilitated collaboration between the two of us.

Storyboard

Figure 3.2.1

- My partner and I drew a storyboard based on the poster and timeline. I was responsible for storyboards 1-7, and my partner, Liu Chengrui, was responsible for 8-15.

Animatic

Figure 3.3.1

- We then began creating animatic animations to test the transitions between storyboards and the timing of each storyboard.
The storyboard images were converted into AI files.
First, add the title animation.

Figure 3.3.2

A shape layer was created and its trimming path was edited to serve as decoration when the title appears.

Figure 3.3.3

An empty object and a camera layer were created and bound to a parent-child relationship. The position of the empty object was then adjusted to achieve the camera movement effect.

Figure 3.3.4

Other scenes were added, and their movement and transformation animations were adjusted.

Figure 3.3.5

Another set of empty objects and a camera was added to create another independent camera movement.

Figure 3.3.6

Holding down "alt" and clicking on the position, the effect was tested using code to animate the position change of the mixer.

Figure 3.3.7

Finally, some necessary descriptive text for the scenes was added, and animations were added.

Animatic Video

Animated Video

Figure 3.4.1

After creating the empty object and camera, add a text layer and a shape layer, turn on the 3D switch, and adjust their animation.

Figure 3.4.2

Adjust the position of the empty object and perform camera movement to move it to the next shot.
Add a swaying animation effect to the tomato by changing its center position and rotation.

Figure 3.4.3

Add a faucet and clear animation of onions and tomatoes.

Figure 3.4.4

Add a movement animation for the knife while cutting vegetables.

Figure 3.4.5

Create an animation of adding multiple ingredients and stirring the spoon.

Figure 3.4.6

Add another set of empty objects and a camera, and create the next rotational camera movement animation. (Adjust the display bar length of the previous empty object and camera so that its end cannot affect other layers.)

Figure 3.4.7

Add an animation of the pot falling onto the road.

Figure 3.4.8

- Based on Animatic's testing, use code to animate the movement of the blender.

Figure 3.4.9

By rotating and simultaneously adjusting the jar and blender, align the spout.

Figure 3.4.10

Adjust the graphic center and freely scale to create an animation of pouring tomato sauce.

Figure 3.4.11

Finally, take a close-up shot of the tomato sauce to indicate that it's finished.

Figure 3.4.12

Adjustments were made after receiving feedback from Mr. Kannan.
- The font was changed.
- The text color was adjusted.

Figure 3.4.13

- The scissors were redrawn and split into two layers to create the animation of them cutting.

Figure 3.4.14

- The basket was also redrawn, with an additional layer to cover falling tomatoes.

Figure 3.4.15

- Animations of washing tomatoes and onions were added using code.

Figure 3.4.16

- To reduce reading strain, long paragraphs of text in this storyboard were broken down into paragraph-level cues.

Figure 3.4.17

- Ingredients from the previous storyboard were added to the stove, with their opacity lowered to suggest what's cooking inside.
Flames were added to the stove.

Video Edit

Figure 3.5.1

Final editing.
- I imported the sound effects collected by my partner Liu Chengrui into Premiere Pro.

Figure 3.5.2

- I imported two background music tracks to compare which one was better.

Figure 3.5.3

- I added and cut sound effects, and slightly adjusted the speed of the video clips.

Figure 3.5.4

- I adjusted the audio volume.

REFLECTION

Through this semester's studies, I learned a great deal about information design, which will be helpful in my future career path of game design.

The final project was to animate the poster I created in my first project. This involved using many software programs, and I not only learned the production process taught by the teacher but also taught myself a lot.

Although my major is not directly related to After Effects (AE), the AE animation production process is very similar to that of Spine skeletal animation, so this also contributed to my major. Although I had learned how to use AE before, I had never created a standalone animation of such a long duration before, so I felt a great sense of accomplishment upon completion.

The assignments this semester were not particularly difficult overall, but they were all very meaningful, with a very good balance between knowledge and practice. The creation of the song text animation left a deep impression on me, and the final work completed by my group filled me with a sense of awe and satisfaction.

Finally, I would like to thank Mr. Kannan for his tremendous help and feedback; he is a very patient and meticulous person.

I hope that the content I have learned this semester will provide me with help and inspiration for my future work, especially the principles of information design, planning and processing methods, which have benefited me greatly and I believe will make my future works more professional and detailed.
